The Saturday Evening Post, founded in 1821, will stop printing after its January issue next year and continue as an online publication. Publisher Joan SerVaas told roughly 50,000 subscribers in a letter that rising production costs, declining advertising revenue and changing reader habits drove the decision.
SerVaas said the print edition had become a financial drain on the Saturday Evening Post Society, which owns the magazine. New articles and fiction will continue online, and the archive, including Norman Rockwell's work, will be preserved digitally. SerVaas, whose father rescued the title in 1970, said she hopes a future buyer might revive print.
